Mattias is our "Sherpa look-a-like".

From scaling Mt Fuji, Japan's tallest peak (almost 300 times) to backcountry skiing, Mattias has spent the last 10 years guiding in the incredible mountains and national parks of Japan and even internationally. 

Though he says he is from Tokyo, Mattias grew up in several different countries making him as multicultural as one can be. 

Mattias has travelled Japan extensively and has deep knowledge of many topics. Thanks to his parent's love for adventure, most childhood family trips were month long camping trips and his never-ending pursuit of exploration continues. 

Mattias considers Japan's mountains to be its greatest treasure and invites you to take on the challenge of exploring Japan's Great Outdoors embracing the very essence of the Japanese culture and traditions.

Moto is our resident "crazy" or ultra endurance athlete who competes in 100 mile foot races. 

For the last decade, Moto has been a professional in the outdoor industry after being exposed to the mountains during his travels to the Himalayas in his early 20s.

Though born and raised in Saitama, Japan, his love for the outdoors has taken him abroad to work as a guide in places such as the great walks of New Zealand.

Moto's experience spans from guiding on Mt Fuji (Japan's tallest peak) and some of the country's toughest summits to mountain safety as a ski patroller in the Japanese Northern Alps.

Not only mountains! Moto has lived in places like Kyoto and Matsumoto deepening his appreciation and understanding of his own country's culture.

Dan is our "Walking MontBell Catalogue". Not many people own as many pieces of equipment from them him.

 Dan is the young gun who packs a punch. 

He has worked across several outdoor travel industries as a guide and in the information center on Mt Fuji, ski patroller, ski instructor and bungee in Japan.

Though originally from the North East of England, Dan has been in Japan for nearly 10 years and is a fluent Japanese speaker. 

 Daniel loves nothing more than a day hiking or a round of golf except for perhaps the beer afterwards. 

Brent is the founder of Fuji Mountain Guides and Kumano Kodo Guides. Having climbed Mt. Fuji many times as a youngster, Brent started FMG with a vision to help foreigners to Japan, in not only summiting Mt. Fuji, but also in coming away with a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and its people. Brent has been the catalyst for FMG and his guidance, humorous stories and epic mountain poses, have led to many foreigners leaving Japan with great memories of Mt. Fuji and the Japanese people.

Luke grew up in Japan as the son of Christian missionaries and has developed a deep understanding of the Japanese language, culture, and people. Monster snowfalls, post-ski onsen outings (with mandatory rolling in the snow) were second nature growing up in the mountains of Japan. Having spent his younger years with Brent going off on adventures all across Japan, Luke revels in the opportunity to now be sharing Japan’s mountains, culture, food, and history with guests from across the globe.
